Meet Rosie....

She is our class Guinea Pig.  I purchased her through a grant from

She has been such an asset to our classroom.  My kids enjoy feeding, playing with, and even just watching her during our school days.  Earlier this month, we celebrated her 1 year Adoption Day!  We enjoyed fruits, vegetables, and dip; all foods (except the dip!) that Rosie was able to eat with us!  And boy does she squeeeaaallll when she smells such goodies!  :)

The kids are allowed to take her home on the weekends, but only after completing our Guinea Pig Unit. You can receive your free copy of my unit HERE . It includes a note to parents, daily chore chart, information about guinea pigs, a list of foods they can eat and a picture of a Non-fiction book that I always read to the class.

In addition to this unit, we also complete CRITTER COLLEGE . This is a FREE program by CAREFRESH. Even though it is for grades 4-7, my 2nd Graders really enjoy the videos and the activity sheets. It provides us with a great information on small pet care!

Our Rosie is very spoiled. She has a "mansion" for a cage, her own traveling bag, traveling cage, plus every accessory imaginable. Her traveling bag includes everything the kids need to care for her during a weekend (except fresh foods), including a journal that is filled with great stories and pictures of her adventures. Every once in a while, her guinea pig friends (Brownie, Lucy and Sandy) will come to school and spend the day with her. They belong to some of students!

I hope you check out these great websites and possibly get your own "Rosie"!
